This gorgeous little creature is a resident of Tuttington. Its name is Salticus scenicus. It is not a Roman Emperor with a naval bent, but a Zebra jumping spider.
Sounds like the stuff of nightmares. It is for its prey which includes smaller spiders and the male of the species. But, at only a few millimetres in size, it is quite harmless to us but not necessarily to our imaginations. Pretty sure our specimen is a female which is larger than the male but with smaller jaws.
Zebra spiders have eight eyes with two large eyes facing forward for good binocular vision.
